Narrator: From those days of darkness, war, and grief, only few tales of love and passion have survived to this very day. Bright like a brilliant star that outshines the nightfall. Listen carefully now, lest any detail escapes your attention about the invincible might of true love.
He roamed the wood of Neldoreth
His name was Beren - at dusk he saw Luthien
Like a shining star her gleam enchanted his heart, so he fell in love
In his mind only Luthien Thinuviel, daughter of breaking dawn
Beren and Luthien - a love damned by fate
The father of Luthien was the king of the elves
Great was his anger, Thingol his name
As he saw Beren to an evil decision he came
Thingol: Beren, how dare you beseech me with such an unthinkable plea? It's out of the question!
Luthien: But I love him!
Thingol: Let him speak for himself!
Beren: I'm not approaching you by free will, but it's my heart that will not let me live another day without.
Thingol: Silence! If this is how strong your heart is, then I have a quest for you.
Beren's face turned to white
As Thingol said what he wanted:
"A single gem of the crown of Morgoth -
Just bring me the Silmaril!"
So he agreed, travelling down to Angband for love
Narrator: After Luthien bade farewell, full of secret hopes to join him, the kingdom of Thingol grew desolate and silent.
Hard was his journey through lands of hate
Luthien joined him to light him the way
By his side she stood, hard was their journey
Through lands of hate, full of fear and pain
Hopeless in Angband they finally arrived
After all they reached their goal
Narrator: As they reached the mountain, they found themselves beneath a monumental gate towering above them.
Dusty stairs and darkened lights
Leading down to Morgoth's might
Deadly hate which killed their hope
Their only shield was their love
Reached the gate of Morgoth's hall
The hellish point of no return
Luthien: Look! There! Can you see it shining?
Beren: Yes! It is the crown of Morgoth. It's incredible and so beautiful!
Shining so brightly
They saw the Silmaril
Shining so brightly
Shining so brightly
They saw the Silmaril
Shining so brightly
Luthien: Shh, quiet! Morgoth could be hearing us.
Narrator: In an instant, Beren was struck with horror as the high king Morgoth lay his eyes upon him and took hold of his very soul.
So clear like a bird a song hurting all evil
Only Luthien's voice defeated his might
Morgoth began, he began to sleep
Morgoth began, he began to sleep
[2x]
Luthien (Luthien) took the Silmaril (took the Silmaril)
Luthien (Luthien) took the Silmaril (took the Silmaril)
She fulfilled Beren's quest
Started to retreat out before Morgoth awoke
Beren: Are you all right?
Luthien: Don't worry about me. Look what I have stolen from the claws of darkness!
Narrator: Luthien held up the glittering gem, and as she handed it to Beren, he could feel its power flood his flesh and his soul.
Luthien: Can you... can you feel it? Hey, can you feel it? His presence is gaining!
Beren: His breadth must be unspeakable! We have to flee!
