A Story To Tell

Catherine Feeny
Took on the highway
Red lights and bumpers
Just up ahead
Choppers gather like vultures
Must be a story to tell
Gunshots were heard in the market lot
Three kids went down
Only two got up
It's where he walks with his boy
Takes him for rides and plays with his toys
Now he worries
Where can he go and be safe with his boy
It's the story he tells
When we were kids
We used our fists
When it was through
Everyone knew
Who had won, who had lost
And still no one laid dying
Made the papers and TV news
Everyone wondered
And spewed out their views
Days went by
And interest faded
No one asks why
We're all too jaded
Ain't no answer
As far as I can see
If you have one
Won't you share it with me?
You got a story to tell
When we were kids
We used our fists
When we were through
Everyone knew
Who had won, who had lost
And still no one laid dying
