Ash Thursday
Common Shiner
A cigarette hangs from the end of my lips
A useless habit for a useless pain
And I'm sitting here in this eternal depot
Waiting for my train
To take me away to something better than this
Because I want to be so much more
And all those lines I've heard a thousand times
Seem so hard to ignore
And if you want this to end, you let me know
Because I can't keep pretending that it doesnt hurt
Flying it solo
Another reminder of my incompetence
Over and over again
I hide for a while and pretend with a smile
The scene that might have been
They say that through pain is where true faith begins
But I must have slept through Sunday school
To have it all sink in
Because it feels like I'm living on Ash Thursday
Feels like nothing will ever change
Feels like I showed up just too late
Maybe I hit the snooze on my life
One too many times
Because everybody else is moving along
And I'm still trying to stay in the lines
Searching for someplace where I belong
Hoping that sometime you'll prove me wrong
Tell me I'm wrong
Because it feels like I'm living on Ash Thursday
Feels like nothing will ever change
Feels like I showed up just too late
