Bedminster Parade
War Against Sleep
Bedminster parade - the lights and the arcade are sparkling and new for me and for you.
I stopped in a doorway to count up the money I kept in my coat - not a single note.
And I started to feel the familiar sensation of my spirits undone - like father like son.
Nobody watched when I picked up the cigarette dimps of the floor.
I leaned against the door.
On Bedminster Parade I waited for you in the rain.
I rolled up a fat smoke with liquorice papers and set it alight.
I breathed in the night.
My head was all spinning and my ears were ringing as I walked down the road to my sweet abode.
And I stumbled into a young maiden with pretty things tattooed on her arms.
I meant her no harm.
Now I don't know where I am going but it is exciting and real - All this love I feel.
On Bedminster Parade I waited for you in the rain.
