Between Caffine and Daydreams

Essenza
There is a time of every day
Between caffeine and daydreams
When all I see is loveliness
When all I feel is loveliness
I grasp it candidly
For one moment it's real
And I know it's fleeting
For one moment it's real
And I know it's fading
Apathy, a silent thief
Seizes thoughts and leaves me
Feeling tragic hopelessness
Overwhelming hopelessness
A callous entity
Then one moment returns
And it lingers briefly
But this moment feels so real
It's penetrating
The malaise of life is threatened by what could be
(From Stanley Kunitz Poem "Touch Me")
And like a child again
Marveled to hear so clear
And brave a music pour
From such a small machine.
What makes the engine go?
Desire, desire, desire.
When all I see is loveliness
When all I feel is loveliness
I grasp it candidly
For one moment it's real
And you think I'm naive
And I'm wondering my dear
Is that what you really believe?
Well I'm convinced
That one moment
Can cradle a lifetime
And I believe it all must be for loveliness
The loveliness...
