Midnight comes unannounced,
winding its way through our house.
We start clearing dishes
for a meal not yet over,
on a day thats on its way out.
Turn out the lights.
The moon creeps into our window
and investigates the room
And he says to me:
son, almost certainly
you are bound
to be a member
of the broken hearted
But I take no stock
in those silvery lines,
as I look to my left
and I look to my right,
and everywhere I turn
I see you on my side.
Slow rock makes the eyelids drop.
Our voices turn to whispers
as sleep catches up.
We sing out our anthems
to an impending slumber
as the curtain swallows us up.
Count all the stars.
