DARK IS THE WAY, LIGHT IS A PLACE
"The title was inspired by a poem by Dylan Thomas in his incredible poem "˜Poem on his birthday'; his poetry is so fluid and intriguing at the same time. I was exposed to him by our touring keyboardist Kyle Flynn, who now plays with Father John Misty.
To me this album was as close to a punk rock record as we would ever record, not musically, but in our mental state during the song writing. We did exactly what we wanted, how we wanted. I believe we were rebelling against everything we thought we needed to be on New Surrender; we just happen to have (debatably) one of the best producers in the world at the helm.
The title is a summation of how I feel lyrically Anberlin had been to that point; there is going to be so much pain in this lifetime, but that doesn't mean it is not worth losing a single moment of it because at the end of the day there is going to be Hope.
