Dream's a Dream
Darden Smith
I moved a little closer to the center of town
And the friends I had there don't seem to come around
I gave up drinking and I gave up the smokes
And I started running with a different kind of folks
It seems about a year ago I reached the age
I figured I'd better get going, better turn a page
So I shook a little dust off a thirty year shoe
And I reckon I bit off a little more than I could chew
Now I know that a dream, it's just a dream
A kiss is just a kiss, don't know what I was hoping for
All I can say is that I knew what I was doing, I'd do it all over
I knew what I was doing and I'd do it all over
I knew what I was doing I'd do it all over again
A man's got to feel like a man in his prime
Or he's just another chump marking time
That old bird in the hand I appreciate
But the bird in the bush man don't it feel great
Late night phone lines leave a paper trail
You say, "Oh, that ain't the kind of stuff for me"
Well, listen here buddy, you never can tell
'Cause now I know that a dream, it's just a dream
A kiss is just a kiss, I guess I was hoping for
Anything but this, oh, anything but this
Father, Father forgive my sins
You see I knew what I was doing and I'd do it all over
Say I knew what I was doing, I'd do it all over again
Knew what I was doing and I'd do it all over
I knew what I was doing and I'd do it all over
Say I knew what I was doing, I'd do it all over again
I come back to this place at night
I maybe eat a little dinner and I turn out the lights
Sit in the dark and I watch TV
I don't think about nothing, you know what I mean
Oh, years from now when I think of you
I'll say a dream is just a dream
And I'll always remember the night my dreams came true
All my dreams came true
Now I know that a dream, it's just a dream
A kiss is just a kiss, don't know what I was hoping for
All I can say is that I knew what I was doing, I'd do it all over
I knew what I was doing and I'd do it all over
Say I knew what I was doing, I'd do it all over again
Oh, I knew what I was doing and I'd do it all over
Say I knew what I was doing and I'd do it all over
I knew what I was doing and I'd do it all over again
