Every Corner
David Abel
Out of the dark doorway and into the daylight where I plan to
Catch you out of the blue,
Whispered words in conversation, footsteps behind me and I wonder
Could they belong to you
I confessed this to a desperate king with daggers in his back right as he cried out
I believe we've both been had
Still the blackbirds they call your name and doctors go to great lengths to explain
What it is I cannot say
Speaking low in a whisper they're telling me time is a gift I can't return
And walking any way I care, I will always hear, your name said aloud
On every breeze that blows itself around me
Every corner that I turn
Out of the underground and into the street I though I just saw
Somebody who looked like you
So I made my way through the grocery store, I followed you until the trail went stone cold
At the end of the avenue
Speaking low in a whisper they're telling me time is a gift I can't return
And walking any way I care, I will always hear, your name said aloud
On every breeze that blows itself around me
Every corner that I turn
Oh crying, shouting out in anger that a metal heart may heat but never burn
And walking, anywhere you please, I wonder do you see, my face in the crowd
On every lover that stretches out upon you, every corner that you turn
