Half the Bottle Down
Shilelagh Law
(Hey Chief, how's about a pint?)
Sharin' a pint with a lad o' mine one evenin' just past eight
Says to me "this ale is not agreein' to my taste"
says to him, "give it a chance before you wear a frown
You can judge an ale 'till you got half the bottle down"
Throw back your mugs and back your glass
Call up another round
Here's to the boys in Belfast
They got half the bottle down
So me boy he takes another pull, a light shown in his eyes
Says to me, "This isn't bad, I do think you were right"
He jumped up on the table and sang with a hearty sound,
"Feelin' so much better, I got half the bottle down"
Sing out a song it's loud and merry
Call up another round
Here's to the boys in Kerry
They got half the bottle down
Soon the place was singin' with my boy who's drunken air
Soon they were a dancin' on the tables and the chairs
The rafters were a shakin' and the windows they did howl
And everyone was singin', "We got half the bottle down"
Spin out a reel that's up a cheek
Call up another round
Here's to the boys in Limerick
They got half the bottle down
Denny took out his fiddle, Brian takes out his pipes
Played and sang and danced and drank until the mornin' light
Sang Praises of Joe Doherty and we cursed the British crown
Swore this was the last one and drank half the bottle down
throw back your mugs and back your glass
Call up another round
Here's to the boys in Belfast
They got half the bottle down
I woke up 'neath a table with a fog around the head
I felt my pules a throbbin' and I swore I must be dead
(I'm never drinkin' again)
I knew what I must do as I searched the littered ground
I grabbed the nearest glass and I drank half the bottle down
Sing out a song it's loud and merry
Call up another round
Here's to the boys in Kerry
They got half the bottle down
Spin out a reel that's up a cheek
Call up another round
Here's to the boys in Limerick
They got half the bottle down
Throw back your mugs and back your glass
Call up another round
Here's to my ma in Belfast
She got half the bottle down
(Thanks, Chief)
