It was the month of May and all the birds were singing
"¨Songs of sadness, songs of pain, a song of my house burning
"¨Future in flames, my heart was aching
I called Miriam and asked if she could hold me
Headed straight for my car with things that I could carry
"¨I went to Miriam's, it's not too far, a drive across the city"¨
Stayed in her yellow room upstairs, window facing east
"¨Slept all alone in bed, and strange as it seems
I wore the bathrobe he gave me last year"¨
And lay with my sorrow hoping love would appear
Eleven days at her house, tears were streaming"¨
I'd lay down on her couch and Miriam would hold me
As evening settled in we'd start talking"¨
About friendship and our fears and I would play my banjo
Playing and laughing and talking and crying"¨
And asking the questions of why does this happen
To me and to you and to everyone over
"¨Again and again and again and again?
It was the month of May this year
So I went to Miriam's, just me and my banjo
