Houses to Ashes
Bye Polar Bear
Headin' to the corner store to find my liquid courage.
I miss my friends from back home.
Born in the boonies, we built castles in the air,
and nobody could touch us at all.
We were bulletproof and set the sky on fire.
We were young, we were finite but didn't know it at the time.
We didn't know much better, we couldn't do much worse,
but we all had a ball living lives unrehearsed.
Six billion rowboats on the sea,
wave after wave of ordinary things.
We'll brave oceans and oceans of ennui
just to find that island of ecstasy.
We were bulletproof and set the sky on fire.
We were young, we were finite but didn't know it at the time.
We didn't know much better, we couldn't do much worse,
but we all had a ball living lives unrehearsed.
In time we found the world's imperfections,
let them creep into our perfect lie.
In a golden age of madness --
kids leaping from cliffs --
of houses to ashes in a riverbed bliss.
(Who would have imagined heaven looking like this?)
