I Am a Young Man
Alasdair Roberts
I am a young man that's inclined to seek pleasure,
Inclined to seek pleasure, inclined to seek pride.
Flashing my finery, flashing my treasure,
Swaggering out in my livery tie.
But still I remember the things that you taught me,
A man will be armed, and will wear the King's crest,
And the weakness of the head is the jewel of a woman,
So she shall repose with a babe at her breast.
And I gave myself up to a governing passion,
Strutting around like some lord of misrule.
Taking delight in my rifle reporting,
Fighting and sporting and playing the fool.
I am a young man that's inclined to seek pleasure,
Inclined to seek pleasure wherever I can.
So Polly, my dear, don't come any nearer.
You could not convincingly call me a man.
And I gave myself up to a governing passion,
Strutting around like a lord of misrule.
Taking delight in my rifle reporting,
Fighting and sporting and playing the fool.
I am a young man that's inclined to seek pleasure.
