the river fell away
the river fell away and washed me down
i turn my head to look around
and find myself a stranger
expectant gazes fill the air
and lump in throat, i ran
back over rocks and through the fields
the cries grew ever distant
and on the bank i sat a while, and cried for what i'd lost
