I Thought It Was The Thunder (But It Was Really Just The Train)
Tom Flannery
Not as young as I used to be
feel worn down half the time
the other half I'm resting
gotta conserve to get what's mine
the road goes on forever
just today soaked by the rain
I thought it was the thunder
but it was really just a train
The faces all look the same
steal what they can't buy
fingers crossed behind their backs
for a way out of the lie
a bigger bunch of phonies
one would be hard pressed to name
I thought it was the thunder
but it was really just a train
watch the eyes when they watch you
perception overload
you're like a mirage in the desert
or a speed bump in the road
So to hell with this silly game
and to hell with all of you
I'm heading underground
more important things to do
I was wondering how I'd get there
and just why I should remain
I thought it was the thunder
but it was really just a train
it made me turn my head
I looked to the sky
right then the conductor blew the whisle
and waved as he went by
