Breathe Owl Breathe
When you were hiding
From the piano
Let songs when you were five years old
Climb in
The spaceship's leaving the apple
Or turn and bring your friends
And get yourself together
And hello Susan
Come out wherever you are
When birds spread their wings
Do they make believe
They're really owls?
In the year of ninety-three
I was writing some of my first poems
The last turtle in the pond raised by the frogs
With my hands
Wrapped around two crayons
Trying to tell the difference
Between ravens and crows
And hello Susan
Let your feelings show
Birds don't sing songs that everyone knows
