Jacket Weather

Crayon Ponyfish
"take that stupid hood off" she says
why can't the weather just stay like this?
it could rain a little more and I wouldn't be pissed
to check some things off that never-ending list
she's super nice to me but I doubt she's impressed
by my waffle-grip shoes and the sweatshirt on my chest
you know our thoughts block what we mean
like the dust settles on the tv screen
so you took a long time but you made it quick
and stood in line for your turn to pick
but when you got up front the only thing that was left
was your breath in the air and your sweatshirt on your chest
let's go downtown
we can kill our skeletons so much easier that way
just driving around
or we could all sit down and drink coffee as black as our souls
you curled you house up in a ball
to retain summer heat through the winter and the fall
you squint your eyes when you think it's cold
I would've thought you were blind if I hadn't been told
fell to the ground and you laid to rest
with your breath blowing wet grass off your chest
well I guess we had our share of fun
just didn't think we'd already be done
let's save every minute of our time
and then take time off of any kind
we could sit at home or go way out west
with our breath in the air and our sweatshirts on our chests
let's go downtown
we can kill our skeletons so much easier that way
just driving around
or we could all sit down and drink coffee as black as our minds
I used to know an ass who bought a boat
that he only used once, three times at the most
so it just sat around 'til it finally quit
and he hung his head as if he gave a shit
I'd say he died young if I had to guess
with his old tackle box and his fishing vest
she had a heart at age sixty-three
read the rest of her life on an EKG
you bet your ass she changed some things
like the way she ate and used her feet
just assumed that her doc knew best
with his stethescope, lab coat on his chest
