Lonely Only Son
Grant Squire
I am a lonely only son, caught a bullet train.
Searching for the promised land,
maybe I search in vain.
There've been times I was deaf and blind,
as see-through as a windowpane.
Times I almost lost my mind.
You don't know how close I came.
I am a lonely only son, caught an aeroplane
to shoot me into paradise,
forget my earthly name.
There've been days when I've lost my way,
felt as obvious as a big red stain.
Times the walls were closing in
and only had myself to blame.
I am a lonely only son upon a chariot of flames,
laughing from above the clouds
that cry a steady rain.
