Bread and Roses
You can tell The Man
There's no hard feelings
For that nasty business with the lake of fire
We understand
And it's in the past now
Some of us are sayin' that we like it better this way and anyhow
We're tired of fighting this stupid war
We don't really care who gets to keep their place up there in heaven anymore
Hell, like Adam always says, "You can't go home again"
But I miss the wings
And golden garments
And nectar and ambrosia twice a day
Do they still sing
In marble courtyards
A hundred million golden tongues all praising Him as one
But anyhow
You can only take perfection for so long
And down here we feed and dress ourselves and leave our rooms a mess and write all our own songs
Cuz like Adam always says, "You can't go home again"
You don't miss your roof until the brimstone falls
And you don't miss being told how to fly until you have to teach yourself to crawl
And I wonder sometimes how things would have gone
If I just held my tongue and played along
But like Adam always says, "You can't go home again"
