September, field like any other where one short story came to its end
What darkness runs through the mind of those so young to paint so black a portrait
And little legs can only carry you so far, choking down tears terrified
I've heard screams in my sleep
Telling me to wake up from this dream I'm in
I've heard laughs from all three
Shielding his face from the stones they threw at him
Strangers fall upon one soul, like so many demons upon an angel fallen
He wonders what he's done to deserve this
"Please, I just want to go back home"
The child trips and falls, knees are bleeding
Stars and clouds fill his head
Can no one hear him screaming
He's screaming his throat red
This day, dark day innocence lost its way
