Summer
Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers
What can you say when the summer arrives
Like a virgin who is not afraid?
When you've said your goodbyes and you're empty inside
And there's nothing left to be said
I've never really had my fun
So I know mostly about ideals
The hearts of young maidens, hearts of young men
That is what the summer steals
In the Summer we believe
That all our dreams can be achieved
In love and lady Charity
In endless possibility
That there is a better way to be
When the Summer ends so do we
When the sad chill of autumn has scared you
With visions of being alone
Like a walk through a house you once lived in
In my busted baritone
And the dormancy leaves you renewed
And resolved for when Summer next comes
But we're always changed and older
And it's all about getting things done
In the Winter I always forget
How the nape of a neck just burns in the sun
Me at thirteen, the uncomfortable dreams
And the snowfall just weighing a ton
There I am digging my car out
So I could just go, go, go
And the people I've not said my prayers for
I wonder if they know?
It wrecks me to think of the callous spring
Gradually pushing me out
Making me further from Summer
From my youth and the dreams and the doubt
From the place that she once lay
On the back of her parents lawn
We all live with our decisions
Tell me why couldn't summer hold on?
