Suntan Lines
Danielle Ate The Sandwich
the nights are getting slower
growing darker
getting colder
and the hair that used to fall in my eyes has grown out
the parking lots are filling fuller
where we sat and watched
and reflected TV lights on grey house walls
and the wind that brushed our skin together
accidentally has grown bitter
but we still stride as sweet as suntan lines
and in the winter ill wear sweaters of fibers trapped in time
they were cut from existential parents now the life they lead is mine
and they will keep me warm if you decide not to
but i could use a man like you
stumble often when you're walking
take cream and sugar in your coffee
smoke and sing me songs in four/four time
and they will keep me warm if you decide not to
but i could use a man like you
men who call at three am
render written once
but you can speak to me in chords
all they had was simple verse
so tell me
will we roll along
or fall like precipitation
well if and when leave wilt and wither and if shiver in cold weather
will you still hold my hand?
