The Deer
The Casual Lean
It was such a beautiful morning, the sun sat in the trees for a long while.
I ran as fast as I could against the cars on the interstate and danced along farm ponds and never got tired.
I darted out into a clearing, I sensed a foreigner near.
All the trees were bending above me, and the birds all shrieked and disappeared.
Then I saw blood burst from my ribcage, before I could even feel pain.
You stood over me smiling at a fragile and innocent frame.
The steam from melting snow where I finally laid to rest rose up around me like cloak or a cradle.
I saw your dark green boots circling around my head and thought about how jealousy can be fatal.
'Cause you'll never be as free as me, and you know that.
You were never alive, so you'll never die really.
You'll never be as free as anything out here.
'Cause this is the real America.
We are The Deer.
If you could take that bullet back
I'd tell you about the time I climbed the mountain top and saw for miles and miles.
Farther than you'll ever see in your entire life.
You poor thing.
If you could take that bullet back
I'd tell you about the time I climbed the mountain top and saw for miles and miles.
Farther than you'll ever see in your entire life.
You poor thing.
You poor thing.
We are The Deer.
We are The Deer.
(Over 50 million strong)
We are The Deer.
(Still enjoying the easy life)
We are The Deer.
You'll never be as free as me, and you know that.
You were never alive, so you'll never die really.
You'll never be as free as anything out here.
'Cause this is the real America.
We are The Deer.
We are The Deer.
Still enjoying the easy life.
Still enjoying the easy life.
