and through the darkness into light we soar,
evolving day from night for evermore
say then, these heroic tears -
these griefs endured through months and years
obscured awhile, to be revealed once more
blindness, dearer far than others' sight,
sweeter grief than earth's most sweet delight
for you have led the erring soul -
by gradual steps to this fair goal
and through the darkness soar into the light
but in his hands the wheel of fate -
turns, now depressed and now elate
