The Road
The Finches
The road stretched out
A hand ready to shake
The hand reached in
To lead me from this place
My house, it yawned for my room
Was fool of waste
So I finally set my pace
Along the road
The road is pulling me
My home is wishing me away
The street-lamps beckoning:
"Come careless, swiftly
And stray,"
But gone, before I'm gone
I'd like for all my friends
To join up with me
In song
So
When I go
My friends can nod their heads
And say:
"We're glad she's moved on,"
Farewell, old comforts
So long, restful days
I'll carry nothing
For nothing can I claim
I will try not to
But I'll still forget your name
And I'll find another face
Along the road
And gone, when I'm gone
I'd like for all my friends
To raise up their heads
In song
So
When I go
My friends can nod their heads
And say:
"We're glad she's moved on,"
the road is pulling me
my home is wishing me away
The sidewalks whispering:
"Come careless, swiftly
And stray,"
So swiftly I strayed
But gone, when I'm gone
I'd like for all my friends
To raise up their heads
In song
So
When I go
My friends can nod their heads
And say:
"We're glad she's moved on,"
The road is pulling me
My home is wishing me away
