The Usual Vernacular
Farewell Flight
i loved a girl from back east
and i had no qualms with giving her my heart
i gave her everything
she told me lies, yeah, she was fake
and i was twenty-five
and that's a little old to make the same mistakes
as i found her out
everything came crashing down
oh, she fed me words
the usual vernacular
well, there's truth in what they say
don't give your heart away, it stays
there's parts of me you can't replace
this wretched girl whom i speak of
she is a troubled sort
her feet go down to death and then she calls it love
she pulled me in, not once nor twice
it's with the greatest shame that i reveal this truth
that she fooled me thrice
as i found her out
everything came crashing down
oh, she fed me words
the usual vernacular
well, there's truth in what they say
don't give your heart away, it stays
there's parts of me you can't replace
