To Justify
New Orleans Swim Team
We were born with a pair of hands,
Conspicuously built to fit each other's throats.
Instead of trying to kill the world that way,
I forced these hands to hold the songs I wrote.
I can't always justify what I am and what I do,
The closest thing to hope I have is that it means something to you.
But if it doesn't, that's okay, too.
There's always going to be someone new.
And I'd rather not see them.
I am who you were.
I am who you're not.
As much as I love to sit, and pretend things to differently,
You see clear as any other day what I force myself to be.
