Casting Shadows

Gift Horse Mouth
Crowds just flocked to him,
He was crazy, he’d had it rough,
Now it's all a memory,
And life is pretty tough.
He'd had help from those who loved him,
They would watch him while he sleep,
He gave the heartbeat such a rhythm,
And those cold fingers creep.
No, I don't remember those days,
And now I need to rest,
But according to those that loved them,
My God they were the best!
They were there casting shadows,
Looking sweet while being sour,
And it seemed like only seconds,
Til they had you in their power,
They were innocent and free,
Had no secrets there to hide,
Hypnotic and euphoric,
But one day the magic died.
Never far from life’s scrap heap,
But they can’t take away his pride,
And when he knew he wasn’t wanted,
You know it really hurt inside,
Now the world wants something different,
Out of sight, out of mind,
Cause times they are a-changing,
And we just got left behind.
And maybe that's the answer,
We're sick of being used,
and we're sick of being lied to,
No wonder we're confused.
They were there casting shadows,
And it's different now they're gone,
And perhaps they never meant for it,
To go on for too long,
They were ahead of their time,
And grateful for what they had,
Being nothing don’t cost nothing,
But being someone drives you mad.
They were there casting shadows,
Looking sweet while being sour,
And it seemed like only seconds,
Til they had you in their power,
They were innocent and free,
Had no secrets there to hide,
Hypnotic and euphoric,
But one day the magic died.
