Eagle on a Pole
Simon Joyner
I saw an eagle on a pole,
I think it was an eagle
Could've been a hawk or a crow
as I was looking through the dirty airport window
Turned my head, saw you instead
checking you're suitcase from California
I returned, the bird had burned
while the middle mothers slowed their speaking (?)
Taxi
I read your long letter yesterday
folded and trapped in an envelope
should've sent a simple postcard, I guess
greetings from the floating casino
(?) precious, time itself is
when you're passing, spending or killing it
gambler's prize would be bloodshot eyes and a complementary breakfast
by the slot machines
I wish you the best!
Forget the rest!
When I said when I was sick(?)
I missed you're skin, so I asked the wind
to tear you from me, to tear you from me
I saw an eagle on a pole,
I think it was an eagle
Could've been a hawk or a crow
as I was looking through the dirty airport window
That's months ago, before the snow
I'm tired of always hearing about how things turned
You have chosen sun and ocean,
so I guess you never have to learn
Will you my love?
Will you my love?
