Lullaby
You Are Why I Sing
So this is how I say goodbye.
I'm drunk as hell, no reason why.
I'm trapped within this skin,
My metal bones are pressing in.
You were minutes from my heart-
The very core of modern art,
Then the snow came down and it rushed you away.
Rhode Islands pretty far,
Won't make it in my car,
five years since we first met,
Can you remember it?
Five years is little progress,
Some self inflicted duress,
Cause I can't seem to forget,
But I always forget.
So Jess are you ready now?
Didn't mean to just shut you out.
You were right when you said goodbye,
I'm not a man but not a little kid.
We were very different then,
I'm sure you're different now again.
I never thought of letting go,
But this is the last one that I wrote.
I will always love you,
I never even stopped.
I don't know what I told you then,
But I am grown up now.
(But I hope we can still be friends.)
So Jess this is your turn now,
Didn't mean to just up and bow out,
You were right when you said goodbye,
But to keep me in the dark?
We were very different then,
I'm sure you're different now again,
I don't know what love is these days
But it is surely what we had.
