Name in the mud
James C. Westley
your train wreck head
your grandmas dead
while the sun surely will explode
and a million eyes
are paranoid
on the new jersey shore episode
well it's raining for the first time
since the last damn time it rained
and the mud caked on the ground
is now spelling out my name.
i can read it if i want to.
and ignore if i try
but it just keeps gettin' clearer every time i close my eyes
well i don't mind my name in the mud.
harder to find it written in blood.
grease spot on the ground
and i'm feelin' just the same
don't have any use anymore
for the horse that has gone lame
if you find yourself in a grain silo
with no else place to sleep.
the salvation army has kicked you out
and you almost begin to weep.
you got a can of beans to share between you and your dog.
the lonely fire you light up will clear the evenin' smog.
so don't mind your name in the mud
it's harder to find. it written in blood.
