Old Soldier
Jerry Leger
OLD SOLDIER
I listened to her cry in the night
Reminded me of old devotion
Wanted to tell her everything would be alright
And that I truly loved her
But I just sat in the other room
Weight of the world on my shoulders
Feels like the walls have been closing in
On this old soldier
I was brave but time tends to change
Without a single word of notice
But she ain't the same way back when we were coming of age
And we'd stand behind our choices
To fall out of love it ain't hard work
And it's so easy to be much colder
I see the end of fighting for it
For this old soldier
Bet you played games
You lied and stole
But who really gonna know
When things just keep on growing
I don't wanna sing about heartache anymore
Polish my boots and close the door behind
Open up my small umbrella
Times like these makes a man reflect
Like he's just being held up
I left her there in a bedroom of ice
That was the last time I held her
Said "when you keep coming on like this
Makes it hard for an old soldier"
