Prufrock
Sister City
"Get some sleep" she says
I laugh and make a run for it
Through the pouring rain
I drive home from the best night in memory
"This can't be real," she says
I laugh and nod my head
Tomorrow I'll be born again
With eyes as dry as bone
And a new place to call home
We both agree that life's not fair
I beg her to keep talking at me
It helps me wake up feeling happy
Ready to start that final day
We agree on all our favorite songs
And Anna begs me not to go
She says "boomarang, not buffalo"
I say "soon we'll be by that river
Counting crows again"
Now my hand drives my pen
Like a walk through the streets
With infinite time
And nowhere to be
And I make promises
That I know I can keep
But with a smile on my face
I just can't help but weep
When I walked out her door
And into the rain
I remember she said to me
Don't ever change
No one can know she said
I sigh and shake my head
It's getting late, it's 4AM
You'd really better leave
But try and get some sleep, she says
