Wildcat Whistle
Scott Miller and the Commonwealth
Not so many years ago, just above the state line
Men and boys were digging coal deep down in the Kentucky mines
All day they'd never see the sun
All night another moon shine run
They never gave a thought to carryin' a gun
You just do it when its gotta be done
They got you living in a four room shack
If you even want to call it that
You can hear the trains through the cracks
When you're living on the tracks....
Old timers still recall Bloody Harlan 1935
When they union made the call, those who stood paid the price
They talk about a dreadful night; a miner killed in '29
They call that "Caleb's Light" ( just a lost soul in the mine)
