Johanna

I was twelve years old and my mother wouldn't let me watch Deliverance
Uncle Doug said "Judy, no no no, I saw far worse when I was his age"
So I stayed up late, but never saw the whole thing
I'd been to Denver once before so I was disappointed by the lack of snow
The rain ran rivers underneath the table where Johanna played alone
Johanna, never planned to see you again
Johanna, never planned, never thought, never dreamed I'd see you again
The movie was done and everyone was getting ready to part ways
And though it was late on our final day, little Johnna came out to say, "Soon, soon, soon..."
I didn't know what she meant but I heard the urgency in her sentiment
So I followed her into her room and heart broke when she handed me her shoes
Johanna, I know you want to go but I don't know how to save you
Johanna, I know you've got to go but I'm only twelve years old and I can't save you
And now you're twelve and I don't know anything about you
Johanna, never planned to see you again
Johanna, never planned, never thought, never dreamed I'd see you again
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Johanna, never planned to see you again
Johanna, never planned, never thought, never dreamed I'd see you again
