End of the Tunnel
Brock Zeman
When you're walking along the edge of a razor
And all your diamonds have turned to coal and you're holding the stem of a rose
And you don't know if you're gonna make it
To Kingdom Come before they lock and bolt the door
You placed your bets, you rolled the dice
You said all your prayers twice
And what did you get for your troubles?
But a worried mind and aching bones
A bent back and a case of the grunts and groans
It makes you wonder: Whose stoking the fire
At the end of the tunnel?
When you're caught somewhere between coughing and choking
And it seems like everything is either cracked or broken
And your "have's" have turned into "gimmie more's"
And your "shoulda's" are piling up and your "do's" become "what for's?"
When Jesus Christ is with Lady Luck
In a bar across town cutting up a rug:
Boy, you know you're in for trouble
And God in tending to his sheep
And all the angels are asleep
Then who is stoking the fire at the end of the tunnel?
