The Tide
Spirit and Dust
Ain't got me no friends,
ain't got me no home.
Lord knowns I've got burdens
I can't bear alone.
But deserts I've wandered
and bare streets I've roamed.
Still i ain't got nobody,
I'm all alone.
The tide it keeps rising
and carries us away.
And nobody's listening
to a word that you say.
There's no way of knowing
as we're floating away
if we're going to live to
see another day.
Ain't got me no money
ot a dime to my name.
You know all my possessions
fit into one suitcase.
I'm doing my best
just to eat everyday.
But they keep sending me
stacks of bills I cannot pay.
The tide it keeps rising
and carries us away.
And nobody's listening
to a word that you say.
There's no way of knowing
as we're floating away
if we're going to live to
see another day.
Well I'm at your door
and I'm knocking.
Won't you come out
and let me in?
Say it don't matter
where I have been.
Say that you will
call me your friend.
The tide it keeps rising
and carries us away.
And nobody's listening
to a word that you say.
There's no way of knowing
as we're floating away
if we're going to live to
see another day.
