Ya Ain't Crazy Henny Penny
Brock Zeman
Eddy got drunk on top of town hall with his old man
When they threw their bottles down on main street they made a beautiful sound
And Jim curled up in a ball and he started to weep
He was still sobbing when I left him and hugging his knees
And all the dogs were running wild, picking through the trash
They knew that something was wrong just not what yet
We looked for your kid sister all over town
And when she didn't turn up I asked "you wanna move on"¦"
Or wait around.
Went by my parents place but they weren't in
So we laid down on the bed and slept for a bit
There were flies in the kitchen and rats in the hall
An empty box of bullets on the counter and their car was gone
There was a note on the fridge in my Father's hand
It said: Son, you know we love ya, but we just couldn't stand
To wait around
I went down to the cellar and found a bottle of wine
It was older than me and tasted like turpentine
In the dust on the bottle you traced the letters of your name
Stared at it awhile then you wiped it away
Then you asked me to dance so I took you in my arms
You sang "Strangers in the Night" as we swayed back and forth
Then you kissed me on the cheek and you whispered in my ear:
"It's better to dance without music, then to just sit and stare
And wait around
God's up in Heaven and the Devil's underground
Ya ain't crazy Henny Penny the sky's falling down
